BYC 2020, week 2, Monday

Welcome to Back Yard Club!

Each day we have stories and songs at the rug, followed by 45 minutes of free-choice art projects.  Besides the choices you see below, we always have painting, along with crayon and chalk drawing at the easels under the tent.

Today our art project choices were

Object prints
Weaving with looms
Eye masks with a handle
Clay-free play

This group is roughly half our normal size!  It's going to be fun to get to know these kiddos well and try some activities that work well in smaller groups!

Here are the kids at "work"

After projects, we wash up and head back for snacks!

Next we do a group activity, today was a journey to find specific types of nature treasures in the yard.  We then pressed these items to double sided tape on our "journey stick."

Our journey took us to an area in the back of newly seeded wildflowers and prairie grasses.  It'll be a couple summers until it's fully mature and blooming, but it was still good to find yellow petals (black-eyed susans) and grass that has gone to seed, and umm...er...dandelions!

We even found a couple amazing, shiny, deep orange beetles.
These unexpected treasures are what make nature walks so fun!

Finding heart-shaped leaves in the clovers around the tree.

After a water break, we read our story that we will practice this week: The Three Billy Goats Gruff!  Can't wait to perform it for you on Friday!

Last, we did some folk dancing!  A Back Yard Club favorite, The Chicken Dance is pictured here.

Despite our cool moves and persuasive efforts for dancing, Caiden was a devoted audience member.

We also learned a traditional Swedish dance called Seven Jumps, and an American dance, Jump Jim Joe.  So much fun!
