BYC 2017, week 2, Friday

Friday!

During set-up time today, my 5 year old, Charlotte, drew a portrait of your children and I sitting at the rug.  Lots of smiling faces!

Today our projects were

Mono prints
Bracelets and wrist bands
Paper bag puppets
Wikki stix sculptures

Mono prints let you smear paint with your hand, draw with your finger, then print it on paper.
I just love how they turn out!

During art time, the kids found something special...

Do you see it there between the tree trunks?  At first we thought it was a cicada shell (they shed them) but it was more! The color of the cicada indicated it was very ready to shed it's exoskeleton, but it was still all in there, slowly moving along the line and up the tree.

After snack today we practiced our story with our scenery we painted yesterday.

Next we relaxed and did some painting with water.  Every parent should have this activity at their finger tips, kids love it!  On a hot day, grab a cup of water and a brush.  You paint any surface--plants, mailboxes, sidewalks, driveways, rocks.  See what happens!  It's fun to watch things change color when they get wet and then watch the water disappear if you are in the sun!

Sally writes her sister's name:  Lucy!

Next we explored my nature collection at the art tables in the back.

We saw many colorful rocks of all shapes, textures, and sizes.

We looked at bird's nests and feathers.

We observed seed pods, tree bark, shells, and animal teeth!

Look at all those bugs!

We had another fun surprise today, a little toad was spotted during our nature time.
The kids got to see him and touch him before we let him go.  Such fun!

I love this part of Back Yard Club...spontaneous moments where we enjoy our natural surroundings together and the life that is all around us.

And this is where you come in!  We are so glad you came for the picnic and our play!

All our hands were busy during the story, but my guess is you all got some cute pictures of those Billy Goats and Trolls!

We sure enjoyed having you all come today and we had a wonderful time with your children all week!  Thanks for being a part of Back Yard Club!

BYC 2017, week 2, Thursday

Thursday

Today's art choices were:

Bubble wrap prints
Giant weaving loom with pieces of nature--a group project
Bean collages
Snails with model magic (air dry putty)

After snack we worked on our scenery for our play!
We have a rocky home and a grassy hillside in progress.

Next we played with the parachute!
We bounced around a unsuspecting fisherman on a very stormy day!

If you enlarge this photo and look closely, you can see lots of balls that we popped high into the air!

Wave to your friends!

Then we made a bubble and sat inside.

The kids love to lie down as the teachers wiggle the parachute over them to "tickle" them.

For dancing, we learned "Floating down the River" which has a nice calm part and a very jumpy part!
We also sang (and played) Farmer in the Dell.

Here we are singing Aiken Drum at the end of the day.

And here's the BYC crew for the week!

See you tomorrow!

BYC 2017, week 2, Wednesday

Wednesdays projects included

Potato Prints
Weaving looms with pipe cleaners
Crowns
Salt dough (to take home)

Here's our helper Jordan with all the kiddos.  Take 1.

Take 2.  Check out those grins. :)

After snack we read about bugs and took a walk to find some!
We drew bugs in our mini books just like scientists!

After practicing our Billy Goats story (with a bridge this time!) we went dancing.

We danced The Chicken Dance and Les Salut again.  It is so fun to watch what happens during moments of music where the kids dance however they choose!

We learned a dance from Sweden called Seven Jumps.

I can't help but love Anna back there in her shades.

During the dance we progressively get down one at a time onto our 2 knees, then add our 2 elbows, then have to put our 2 hands down...(which is 6 so far)...

and end with our heads! Number 7!

My 5 year old and I had a nap today.  You?

;)

See you tomorrow!
