BYC 2014, Friday

It's Friday!  Here's what we were up to:

Marble painting
Masks
God's eyes, weaving looms, and bracelets
Salt dough

We snatched a picture with all the teachers!
They are awesome!!
Back to front, left to right:
Katie, Kristan, Chloe, Jordan, Patti, Lindsey
Eliza, Andrew, and Abby

Today we had a lesson about beavers and all the great features that make them unique!
Each item Jordyn is wearing represents one of these features.
Sorry you can't see her ping pong paddle tail!

One more time with the parachute.  Look at the balls fly!

A little folk dancing.

Including London Bridge.

Our picnic.

And the play!
The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

The troll:
"With eyes as big as saucers and a nose as long as a poker!"

The tiniest billy goat trip traps across the bridge.

Billy goats making themselves fat!

Thanks everyone for coming, we had a wonderful time!

BYC 2014, Thursday

Today's activities included:

Mono prints
Paper bag puppets
Nature weavings
Oobleck play

Check out the oobleck table.  I think they were having fun.

Next we split into two groups.
While one group made leather pouches the other group checked out our nature center.
We explored a bird's nest, unique feathers, rattling seed pods, and a whole collection of rocks.

After adding flowers to our grassy meadow (scenery for tomorrow's story)
we danced around the May pole!  Complete with authentic English folk music.

BYC 2014, Wednesday

We got some cute pictures today.  Enjoy!

Today the kids did:

Yarn painting
Bracelets
Finger print art
Salt dough

After all their hard work, we took the kids on a scavenger hunt.  Here's what we found.
We opted not to tape on the squirrels or birds.

Next the kids pretended they were a certain animal and the teachers had to try to guess what they were.
Can you?

And here are a couple attempts at a group photo.

(Sorry, minus Will on this one.  Potty break.)

I was laughing at how long they could hum a pleasant "cheeeeeeeeese."
If only they could look the same direction for the same length of time!

Butterfly painting
Mosaics
Wind socks
Pinch pots

After art projects we took a walk in search of interesting leaves and did leaf rubbings!
Next we played parachute games:

We ended the day with "We're Floating Down the River."
This song has a peaceful verse with a lively, JUMPY chorus!  Look at all these blondies jump!

BYC 2014, Monday

Welcome to Back Yard Club, everyone!

Every day at Back Yard Club we start with stories and songs.
Next the kids get to choose from a variety of art projects.

Today's projects were:

Veggie prints
God's eyes
Sand art
Snails (clay)
(Easel painting and drawing are available every day)

Meet my youngest child, Charlotte.
She has sure enjoyed being with all the big kids this year!

After snack we went on a bug walk!
The kids "took notes" in the form of bug drawings in their mini-books.
We saw toads, crickets, moths, ants, bees, beetles, mosquitoes, and a variety of other flying bugs.
Here we are looking at a dragon fly who waited patiently on a branch for us.

Next we did some folk dancing!
We danced The Chicken Dance, Les Salut, Jump Jim Joe, and The Farmer in the Dell.

We ended the day playing The Three Billy Goats Gruff!

See you all tomorrow!
