BYC 2015, week 1, Friday

It's Friday!

Today's projects included

Potato prints

Wooden medallion necklaces
(A great excuse to buy a wood burning pen, so fun!)

Popsicle stick puppets

Salt dough to take home
(If you want you can bake creations at 200 for 1-3 hours, depending on thickness)

Next we did some traditional English dancing with the May Pole!

Love the little twirl.

Today we split into two groups and traded activities.  While one group was doing rubbings with leaves and bark, the other group was checking out Back Yard Club's nature collection. We looked at some smooth birch bark, a birds nest, cicada exoskeletons, a variety of rocks, and some striped feathers.

Here are a few pictures of our picnic and our play!

The peddler's with all of their caps...soooo high!

The peddlers walking to the country.

The monkeys run off with the caps!

Shaking a finger at those pesky monkeys!

The monkeys, "Zzz!  Zzz!  Zzz!"

Sometimes we act like monkeys too.

Thanks for coming kids!  We had a blast with you!

Kristan is missing from the picture above, so...one more monkey picture of all the teachers!
Complete with blue tongues from our icee outing after camp was cleaned up!

Have a wonderful summer, everyone!

To end the day we went on a nature scavenger hunt and afterward used our paper plate shakers to accompany ourselves in This Old Man.

Maybe you noticed some of our treasures hanging on our mobile by the front table today.

After our project time, we got out the parachute for some games!

Next we danced to a few songs, courtesy of The Wiggles!

Check out the angry peddler's faces!

And the teasing monkeys!

Last, we played a game where we pretended we were different animals

It was a great day!

BYC 2015, week 1, Monday and Tuesday

Welcome to Back Yard Club!

Monday we didn't have the camera out, but here's what we were up to:

We always start out with some songs and stories.

Our projects included

Mono prints
(smear paint, draw in it with your finger, print on paper)

Nature Sticks
(A Native American tradition,
decorate the stick and place it in your garden to thank the earth for its gifts!)

Wood people puppets

Free play with clay

Art easels--painting and drawing--are also out every day.

After sack we played read "The Very Busy Spider" and made a giant yarn spider web!
We then took turns playing the spider and the fly who is called...lunch!

Tuesday

Today our projects included:

Blob painting

Dream catchers

Bean collages

Pinch pots

After snack we took a nature walk and looked for items with great texture.
These would be pressed into clay to be like fossilized impressions.

Today we did some folk dancing!
Here are some pictures of "We're Floating Down the River"
where there just happens to be a lot of jumping. :)

We also introduced the kids to the story we will act out on Friday, Caps for Sale.
And in case you didn't know, your kids like to be monkeys!
