Today's art project choices were
Fold painting
Nature sticks
(A Native American tradition-- a decorated stick placed in the garden to express thanks to the earth for her gifts.)
Crowns
Clay--pinch pots
(real earth clay)
I snuck a few fun pictures while Eliza led the group in a game of Simon Says
After snack we read Look and Listen and took a walk in small groups to find what we could see and hear in the yard. We found many of the back yard usual suspects, plus one group found a teeny tiny toad!
Oh, these guys found a cicada exoskeleton!
We talked about them yesterday during our bug chat, and today while we were listening to the yard...they are noisy!
(Thanks to Eliza for those cute pix!)
Next we took some time to explore a few instruments.
I showed the kids a xylophone and Michael brought his saxophone.
He played and we sang a few songs including You Are My Sunshine and This Old Man while the kids played percussion with rhythm sticks. Jam session?
Next we practiced our play! We ended with a couple new dances: A Swedish folk dance nicknamed Hurry Scurry that starts slow and speeds up until the exhausting ending, and Germany's, The Chicken Dance.
