BYC 2019, week 2, Monday

Welcome to Back Yard Club!

Each day we start with stories and songs.  Though not much gets written about this part of the day, it one of my favorite times!
Children get so much joy from music--listening, singing, and playing along.  I guess I do too!

After stories and songs we have 45 minutes of free-choice art time.  Though trying all projects is encouraged, it's not required.  Every day kids have access to coloring and painting at the easels in the tent.

Our other project choices today were:

fold painting, cloud shapes
weaving on looms
mosaics
salt dough free play

After art and snack time we went on a nature walk in small groups.  We found hoof prints from some deer, spotted the frogs out front, found some shiny flies, and a bright blue dragon fly.  Also, we found white mulberries fallen from the tree and some tiny grasshoppers.

Next we told our story of the week, The Three Little Pigs!  We are excited to practice it and show you on Friday.  Luckily, the kids know the lines really well already!

For our dancing time we learned a French Canadian folk dance called Les Salut.  We "salute" each other by saying "hello" with a bow in the center of our circle.

Last, we sang and danced "We're Floating Down the River," an American folk song and dance.  This is a kid-favorite with some quiet parts and jumpy parts.

Here are this weeks teachers!  It's going to be a great week!
