Week 2, Wednesday

 Today our art choices were:

marble painting

giant weaving looms

paper bag puppets

coil pots with air dry putty

Extra time?  Have a look in some nonfiction nature books!

Rev up your engines...we're going to snack time like race cars!

Special guest lecturer.  ;)

Next we took a nature walk and did a little scavenger hunt. Mostly this list was full of things we could see, but not collect.  For example, a vole hole, a crawling insect, and a bird nest.  We found a few extra fun things, like swallowtail and monarch butterflies.  (Hard to see, but the kids are looking at one here.)

Also found was a cicada exoskeleton clinging onto the tree.
(half way up the trunk here)

A nest!  This one fell out of its tree a while ago and has been a great source of fun!

I got a real surprise when Tyler ran over with the bucket and hollered, "Miss Katie, guess what we found!?" Certain it was a frog, I peeked in the bucket.  I was wrong...on the hunt for vole holes, a vole was found running around!  They aren't terribly fast critters, so the teachers caught it and we got to have a look.  Then, back to the prairie garden, little vole!

A few different kinds of pinecones were on the list to gather...this group just couldn't get enough! :)

Next we did some water painting.  I always recommend this as a fun and easy activity to do at home.  We enjoyed making pictures, writing letters, and watching the water evaporate.  It was also neat to see how the water made the rocks change color.

Oh yes, then we started tracing the teachers.

Last we played a little game where the kids run from one group of teachers to another as they pretend to be a certain animal.  Then we have to see if we can guess right.

Penguins...

And sharks!

We also practiced our play...boy were there a lot of monkeys!

See you tomorrow!
