Week 1, Wednesday

 Today's projects were:

object prints

lacing cards

mosaics

clay free play with stamps and rollers

This is what it looks like when race cars run to get ready for snack time!

After snack we got into small groups and explored our nature center items.

We had a variety of feathers and bird nests

This group is trying to fly with turkey feathers in hand!

We looked at a variety of rocks, real fossils, and shells.

This is fossilized wood.

We explored bones, a bit of racoon fur, and a snake skin.

Last, we looked at all sorts of seeds and bugs.

This included a real whole cicada, cicada exoskeletons, and bugs preserved in resin marbles.

Next we painted some scenery for our play, (the messiest approach to painting),

and then practiced what the characters say in the story.

What a great day!

See you again soon!

Week 1, Tuesday

 Hello Back Yard Club families!

Each day at camp we start with stories and songs and follow up with 45 minutes of free-choice art time.   Encouraged to try each project, the children get to pace themselves and even do some projects twice if they loved it.  We have 4 choices plus the art easels are open every day.

Today's choices were

veggie prints

leather initial bracelets

popsicle stick puppets

clay free play (with stamps and rollers)

Washing up can be a little wild with this spigot!

After art was snack time.  Here's everyone!

Next we divided into small groups and went on a nature scavenger hunt.
We found some different shaped leaves, pine needles, feathers and acorn pieces.

Plus, some found unexpected treasures like a cicada exoskeleton and a fallen bird's nest!

Our next activity was folk dancing where we learned
The Noble Duke of York, Seven Jumps, and Ring Around the Rosie (with a silly second verse).

We had some dramatic "all fall down!" moments!  (notice the backward roll on the left there)

After dancing we introduced our story of the week, Where the Wild Things Are.
We are very excited to act it out for you on Friday. There will be some roaring, that's for sure.

See you tomorrow!
