BYC 2022, week 2, Wednesday

 Today's art choices were

Mono prints
Nature weaving--group project
Popsicle stick puppets
Air dry clay--coil pots or other sculptures

Looking at nature books with some extra time.

After art and snack we had a nature lesson about beavers.
We learned all about beaver's amazing adaptations by dressing up our friend
with things a human might use for what the beaver has naturally!

Let's see...goggles, headphones, a poncho, work gloves, perfume, a chisel, flippers, a nose plug, and a ping pong paddle tail all help describe natural adaptations of the beaver!

We practiced our story and then gathered 'round the May Pole for some dancing with ribbons.

See you all tomorrow!

But first...check out this nature weaving all finished!

BYC 2022, week 2, Tuesday

Welcome to Tuesday, it's a beautiful morning!

Eliza got us started with some stories.

Today's project choices were

Fold painting
Sewn leather circle hangings
Bean collage
Salt dough free play

A clothes line full of paintings makes my summer-art-camp heart happy!

Here we are playing a game where the kids act like an animal traveling back and forth from teachers and we have to guess what they are.  We need a few clues when they decide to be snow leopards!

Painting with water is always fun--
see how water changes the color of what you're painting, watch it evaporate,
and see what it does on different textures (cement, leaves, tree trunks, basketball hoops).

After we practiced the lines in The Three Little Pigs, we headed over to the dancing tree.

If you look closely, you might see that we managed to add a little complexity to Jump Jim Joe today.  We danced in two circles: the inner circle facing out, and the outer circle facing in.
We even changed "partners" during the song.  A fun accomplishment!

We added a little bit to The Noble Duke of York as well, and also played London Bridge.

See you tomorrow!

BYC 2022, week 2, Monday

Welcome to Back Yard Club!

Seeing the bags hanging on the line is a sign to me that some fun is on the way!

Each day at camp we have stories and songs at the rug followed by 45 minutes of free-choice art projects.

Besides the choices you see below,
we always have painting, crayon, and chalk drawing at the easels under the tent.

Emily started us off with stories in the sunshine as everyone was arriving.

Today our art project choices were

Bubble wrap prints
Lacing cards with beading option
Crowns
Salt dough free play

Oh goodness, something silly is going on at the salt dough table!

Snack time

Next we took a nature walk and gathered small pieces to make some silly clay faces for our trees.
Feel free to find the one your child made as you drop them off or pick them up.
One of our helpers can show you the way.

Next I told the kids the story they will act out for you on Friday, The Three Little Pigs.
This was followed by an introduction to a new simple folk dance to The Noble Duke of York.
We also danced Jump Jim Joe and The Chicken Dance.

Bring your beaks and wings and we'll see you all tomorrow!

BYC 2022, Week 1, Friday

Charlotte started off with a couple chicken-y favorites...The Little Red Hen and Rosie's Walk.

 Today's project choices were

Foil painting
Bracelets
Paper plate shakers
Salt dough free play

Salt dough table is always a busy place.

After project time and snack we checked out our nature centers.  We got to look at and touch all kinds of rocks, some fossils, animal bones and fur, cicada exoskeleton, bird's nests, and huge turkey feathers!

Today we practiced our play with our scenery. I was unable to hang up the gorgeous sky painting and forgot to bring it out to show it off.  Show your kids if you can; the sky painters were very dedicated.

Last we danced Floating Down the River, the ever famous (and adored!) Ring Around the Rosy,
and Go In and Out the Windows. The kids make "windows" by lifting their hands high.  A few at a time get to go in and out and around--look closely to see them.  :)

We loved having all of the families come to our play!
We had such a fun time showing you the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Have a wonderful summer and thank you for coming to Back Yard Club!
